Finale
Houseguests: Cassandra Waldon, Josh Welch
Cassandra and Josh had did what 14 others could not do. It was now time for them to face the jury and give their opening statements.
Cassandra: Hi everyone! I can't believe after four long months, we're finally here at the end. I just wanna take a second to thank everyone involved in this game. Julie for getting it set up and Brian for taking over towards the end, and of course all of you guys for making this a very chaotic and memorable season.
My main strategy was to never be anyone's number one target. I always kept my options as open as possible and I was able to use many of the other plays as smokescreens. With people in the game like Enzo, Jen, Lori, Russell, Karen, people who were playing more in the forefront and were more outright dominant in their gameplay, I was able to hide behind them and have them take the bullets. I will admit that I was not in the best position at first, losing Libra, someone I trusted, in Week 1 and being nominated Week 2, but I was quickly able to overcome these setbacks by working my way into an alliance of seven. With Jen, Lori, Russell, and Kalia in this alliance, I had more than enough people to hide behind for a while and could begin to work behind the scenes.
Although I was in a good position within my alliance in terms of smokescreens, I was definitely aware of my position in regards to the suballiances. As many people in the opposite alliance pointed out, we had three veterans in our alliance in James, Lori, and Jen. In addition, the only person I felt I could really work with was Jee, due to what I heard about Russell and Kalia’s relationship with the veterans. When the time was right, Jee and I went against the majority to try to save Drew. Unfortunately Drew was evicted, but the plan was set in motion. Things, however, did not go as planned, and Jee was evicted a mere two weeks later. But when the James, Lori, Russell, and Kalia got wind of the plan, Jee was the one who took the fall, serving as another smokescreen for me. But once he was evicted, it was time for me to step my game up for the final phase.
From that point on, I emerged as a more prominent player. I won Competitions when I needed to, winning two Power of Vetos and the final two Head of Households. I flipped alliances when I needed to, resulting in Russell, Karen, and James’s evictions. Although things did not always go the way I hoped, I was able to face these setbacks head on and make the best of my situation, thinking quickly on my feet and always coming up with a Plan B. And now we’re here, at the end of the long journey. I’m here at the end, sitting next to Josh, and it’s your turn now. I’m satisfied with how I played the game and how I got the end, but it’s really your decision. You guys have a difficult choice, but I hope you can recognize the way I played the game physically, socially, and strategically.
--------------------
Josh: Wow. So here we are. Who would have expected after being nominated the first week that I would be sitting here in the final 2? I surely did not. But I am thankful for the opportunity to sit before you, the jury, and tell you why I should win this game.
I don't want to go into too much detail here, as that is what the questioning is for. However, I'll give a brief synopsis.
I came into this very similar to Cassandra. Not making enemies, sort of taking the "easy" route if you will. After the first nomination I slid in under the radar and was a part of many alliances all at one time. I think at one point I was "alligned" with every single person on the jury in some way. My biggest ally however was Drew. We had formed an alliance on the first day and continued to play with each other for most of the game. We eventually teamed up with Karen and Kalia. We had a good thing going for a while. But when we continued to get bad luck (Jen and those damn buttons I tell ya! Hahaha) it was apparent that our alliance wouldnt be sticking together much longer. However, contrary to what he believes, I did not vote him out. Apparently there is some website or something that has voting history on it and I was accused of casting a vote against him. I told him I did not and I speak the honest truth. Not once did I ever vote against you man... you were my bro, I wouldn't do that to you. You'll see when the game is over I suppose if you don't believe me now.
After Drew left I knew I had to switch sides against Karen and Kalia. I took the risk of playing with Russell and James for the remainder of the game. It was clearly guys vs. girls there the end. And perhaps one of the worst things that happend was when James won HOH and nominated Russell and myself. I knew somehow deep down that we were going to get screwed over by Karen winning veto. And I made my argument known to James. It pissed me off. And wouldn't you know it? I was right... Karen won veto and thus it was Russell vs. myself. Luckily Russell was already a target and I was saved.
I may not have had the best game as far as challenges go, but I proved that you don't need to win challenges to get to the end. I think I was in a situation in the final three where either Cassie or James would have taken me to the end. I can't speak for certain on that, but I think I had it. Winning HOH would have been a tough call for me, but luckily I did not have to make that decision and here I am against Cassie.
Cassandra, I wish you best of luck as we battle it out one last time. And jury, I look forward to hearing everything you have to say. My seatbelt is buckled... bring it on!
First juror to speak up was Drew.
Drew: This game was a very interesting one. To be completely honest, there are people in the Jury House that deserve to be sitting where you're sitting right now. Here, let me name a few: Jen, myself, Lori, James, Karen, Russell, Kalia (eehh). Some pre-jurors as well like Rachel and Enzo. Haha. This game was a complete mess, BUT...I'm still extremely proud of you two because you guys got here. So congratulations.
Cassandra, I want to address you first. How come you were going against the majority to get votes, when you could've simply just used the veto to save me?
Josh, I would like you to tell me exactly WHAT you did to get here to the final two. Be specific. Tell me specific game moves. Tell me crucial game moves. What was the most important game move for you that got you where you are? Tell me.
Cassandra: The reason I didn’t use the Veto on you is because nobody else would be able to take the fall for me. If I used the Veto on you, my intentions would’ve been made clear to everyone. At that point, I was trying to make a lot of people think I was working with them, including Russell, the HoH that week. If I used the Veto on you, I would make myself a target definitely for Russell, if not multiple people. There were ten people left the game and that leaves a lot of time for people to come after me. I tried to save you through the vote because it would take more people, meaning someone else could take the fall for me. While I was sad to see Jee evicted, I was able to remain in the background more and not become the target for a while. If it was later in the game, I would’ve used the Veto on you because there would be less time for people to target me.
Josh: I think at the beginning I was very under the radar, which ended up being to my advantage as far as getting me a bit further in the game. My true alliance was with you Drew. I think as far as game moves go, my biggest move happened after you were voted out. I joined Russell and James in an attempt to get rid of Karen. She was a HUGE threat and would have won hands down against any of us. From there I continued to try to stay quiet and coast to the end. Which is what happened. It's not the greatest gameplay sure, but it got me to where I am.
Next up was Karen.
Karen: First off I'd like to congratulate the both of you for making it to the end. I appreciate your honesty in stating that you both feel you're not the most deserving to be here because I think a lot of people will agree with you on that. That being said I'm not sure what questions to ask either of you.
I completely disagree with Cassandra's strategy. I think it's a weak way to play. Cassandra you admitted to hiding behind others and can really sit here and tell me that that's a "good" strategy. You're here in the finals but I most certainly wouldn't say it's a good or even decent strategy. It's weak, at best. So, tell me, why should vote you over Josh?
Josh, in my honest opinion I think you had a very unorganized approach in this game. It never once seemed like you were totally into the game at all. It was annoying at times because although I wanted to trust you I never really knew what to expect out of you. Although that may seem like it deserves credit as far as game strategy is concerned - I personally feel like it was just sloppy and you just didn't care.
Can you tell me specifics about what your strategy was coming into the game. I don't mean later on in the game when you decided to align with the guys but I mean when the game first started everyone generally comes in with an idea of how they want to play. I want to know if you came into the game with a plan.
Cassandra: Hi Karen! Like I said in Kalia’s question, I was in more control of my game than Josh. I know that you don’t necessarily respect the way I played the game and think it was weak, but it was what was best for me and it allowed me to reach the final two with my person of choice. Despite hiding behind other people early on, I was able to plot and make my moves when I wanted to, switch alliances when necessary, and win Competitions at the right times. On the other hand, I think that a lot of Josh’s game was dependent on the fact that a lot of people saw him as a goat to take to the end. While I’ve gotten here to the end based on decisions I have made, Josh has gotten here to the end because I picked him to be here. It’s easy for you guys to put Josh and I in the same category as people who ultimately may not be as deserving for the win as some of you Jurors, but I urge you guys to see the differences in my game and Josh’s game. Thank you Karen!
Josh: My initial strategy was to lay low and let the other people control the game. And I did that. I wasn't on any "side"... I just went with the flow of the game. And here I am in the end, so it must have worked.
Kalia questioned Josh and Cassandra next.
Kalia: I just have 1 question to both of u. What makes you more deserving than the other person? Readyyyy... Goo!
Josh: I don't know if I am more deserving than Cassandra to be honest. I mean, I'm not giving up that I can't win... but if I were to vote I'd vote Cassandra. She played the better game. I had zero social skill and that showed. :/
Cassandra: What makes me more deserving than Josh is that I was in more control of my game than Josh was of his. While my game was definitely more passive than most, it still had active components that I’ve mentioned in other people’s questions. On the other hand, Josh’s one move he can take claim to is aligning with Russell and James. I have a lot more to be proud of and it’s clear that Josh isn’t proud of his game. He said it himself, his social game sucked, his physical game sucked, and his strategy sucked. I know that both of us are taking a lot of heat from the Jury about being very undeserving and the worst final two in Recycled ever, and while I can certainly understand where these claims are coming from, I also believe that there’s a clear and distinct separation between my game and Josh’s game.
Thank you Kalia!
Russell was the next juror to speak.
Russell: Hello Cassandra and Josh.. I would like to congratulate you both on making the final two..As far as questions go I guess I don't have anything to ask..Uhhh... Maybe I can ask what was the major move you made to get this far?? I guess I'd like to know that. Congrats again!
Josh: As stated in previous answers, I think my "major" move was switching over and aligning with you and James. If I were against you I probably would have been voted out sooner. Thanks Russell!
Cassandra: Hey Russell. I listed three important moves in Drew's question so I'll come up with different one to avoid redundancy. A major move I made to get this far was back in Week 3 with the big Enzo vs. Jen vote. It was pretty clear that the vote was an important one and would have a huge impact on the rest of the game. When news got out about Enzo’s Mafia, I decided that it was important for me to evict Enzo and stick with Jen and the others. If I stuck with Enzo, I would be at the bottom of the alliance with no way to work my way back up. There was a core group that was very strong because of a strong previous agreement and I was on the outside of it. With the people evicting Enzo, there was no strong agreement that solidified five or six of us. This gave me room to work with people and get a read on everyone. Additionally, there were some big personalities and strong players that I was now grouped with, like Jen, Lori, and you. This was extremely beneficial for me because if the other side gained power, I was not going to be targeted immediately. In evicting Enzo, I was able to put myself in a very secure position within the majority and also gave me enough room to avoid being stuck at the bottom of the group.
Lori had a few questions to ask.
Lori: Excited To never have to log in here again. I'm here by force because I got about 50 death threats via text message to get on and vote for a winner. I could care less to see who wins and won't even log in to see who it was. . . . Congrats to whomever the winner is!But here are my questions to the both of you!
1. I know why you think you should be the winner, but why do you think the other person should be the winner?
2. what do you regret in the game?
Cassandra: Hi Lori!
1. I don’t think this was part of Josh’s strategy, but you could make an argument that he deserves to win based on how he had himself pretty much guaranteed to make it to the end for a long time. Like he said, he’s pretty sure James would’ve taken him here as well. After Russell’s eviction, Karen told me that she wanted to get to the final three with myself and Josh. I can’t speak for others, but it seems like a lot of people wanted to go far with Josh because he wasn’t seen as much of a Jury threat.
2. I don’t regret anything that I’ve done, but I do wish I made a few bigger moves and played a more active game. This is the first competitive ORG I played in a long time and this is definitely the most passive I can remember playing. With returning veterans and some strong alliances (like the Mafia) being made immediately, it was a big wake up call that this was going to be a rough ride. With that in mind, I felt it would be best for me to lay low and play a more passive game and I was right. For other people it might not be the best strategy, but with the position I found myself in, it was the best way for me to get to the end.
Thank you Lori!
Josh: 1. I think Cassandra should win because she had a great social strategy in being friends with mostly everyone. She didn't go around backstabbing all the time and she gave her all in challenges.
2. My only regret would have to be not being more social. I wish I had more time to meet every player here and really get to know them. But as far as gameplay goes, I got to the end this way so I cannot regret that by any means!
There were more than a few jurors who had nothing to say to the Final 2.
James: So I don't have any questions. Congrats on making final 2!
-----------
Tonya: And this is coming from probably the least talkative person in the game. Nothing against either one of you, but I am totally not thrilled about this vote.
Cassandra, you did do more than Josh to get there, but you still did very little in the game as a whole.
Joshuah, we were friends and allies (or so I thought) until you stabbed me in the back. Not quite sure if I can get over that to vote for you, because I do feel Cassandra did more than you.
Still, I will pick one of you to win. And whoever wins I will congratulate them. So good luck.
-----------
Jee: Hey final 2! Since my elimination it's safe to say I haven't logged on to see what was happening. Cassie, My girl!!!!!!! Good stuff making it to final 2 girl I'm so proud of you! <33 And Josh congrats to you too! I know we didn't talk to each other but you definitely surpassed my expectations. Again that was mostly my fault. Real life got in the way of the game. But as for questions, I have none. Best of luck final 2!!
-----------
Jen: I have no questions because I honestly don't care. Josh you did jack shit all game and I find it laughable that you slid by. You are one of the most irrelevant people to ever play this game and I forgot you were even playing 100% of the time.
Cassandra, you were fiesty when we were playing together but then died, drama wise, eh. You'll probably get my vote as I can't be bothered to read the gameplay of this mess and you'll simply get my vote just because I like you.
After one of the most bitter jury questionings the votes were cast. When the votes were revealed James, Russell, Kalia, and Lori voted for Josh, but Karen, Tonya, Jee, Drew, and Jen voted for Cassandra, making Cassandra the winner of BBR11.
